A new UK-wide marketing campaign to raise awareness of education options at 14 prominently features two Lincoln organisations.
Three videos used in the UTC Colleges campaign were partly filmed at Lincoln UTC and were produced by Lincoln company Electric Egg.
As well as Lincoln UTC students, the films feature parents of current Lincoln UTC pupils and Lincoln companies Siemens and Fairfield Control Systems.
The Think14 campaign is currently being rolled out across the UK by UTC Colleges to raise awareness of the opportunity that young people have to change schools or colleges at the age of 14. The timing of the campaign coincides with all local authorities writing to parents to inform them of their child’s options and the location of their nearest UTC.
UTCs were introduced in 2011 UTCs are specialist education settings that offer Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics education to equip young people with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the needs of employers in the future.
Lincoln UTC opened in 2014 and moved into its current £9 million home on Lindum Hill a year later. It admits up to 160 students into Year 10 and Year 12 each academic year.
“UTCs offer something different to traditional schools,” says Interim Principal, Paul Batterbury. “Our curriculum has been shaped and designed by both the needs of young people and our industry partners. Studying at a UTC is not for everyone. It is for young people who have either a clear vision of where they want to get to in life, whether that be a career in engineering, computer science or science or an apprenticeship or a STEM related degree. We are proud of our achievements so far and I think one the reasons UTC Colleges asked to film here is because of the success we’ve achieved so far.”
This summer the UTC celebrated their examination results, exceeding national standards across the specialist subjects in Post 16 and proving to be an outstanding college for the delivery of Mathematics. 100% of leavers entered education, employment or training with 93% of students securing their first choice university. A wealth of Apprenticeship opportunities were secured by UTC students in Years 11, 12 and 13 including Siemens, Alan Woods, Fairfield, the Royal Navy and Air Tanker.
There are no entry requirements for entry into Year 10 but students must have a strong interest in Engineering and/or Science and a desire to combine practical, technical and academic modes of study. Entry requirements for Year 12 courses can be found at www.lincolnutc.co.uk
