What is a UTC?
UTCs provide a unique opportunity for students aged 14–19 to study innovative technical subjects alongside a strong core curriculum, within a learning environment that is designed to reflect the expectations of the modern workplace. At Lincoln UTC, students benefit from a calm, focused and professional setting, with no uniform, no bells and a longer working day, alongside small class sizes that allow for excellent relationships with staff and a high level of individual support.
Our specialist provision in Science, Engineering and Mathematics is at the heart of what we do. Students experience a far greater depth of STEM education than in a traditional school, with up to 29 out of 36 lessons dedicated to these subjects. This enables them to develop real expertise over time, supported by clearly defined pathways that allow students to specialise over four years, particularly within engineering and technical disciplines. These pathways are further strengthened through extended work experience opportunities, in some cases lasting up to a year.
Our specialisms have been carefully chosen to reflect Lincolnshire’s rich heritage and future need in engineering and science, ensuring that students are well prepared for high-value career opportunities. We are proud to work closely with a wide range of employer and educational partners, including Siemens and the University of Lincoln. These partnerships allow students to engage with real-world industry challenges, working alongside professionals and gaining meaningful insight into the careers they aspire to.
Students at Lincoln UTC develop as confident, articulate and highly skilled individuals, able to apply their knowledge to complex and unfamiliar problems. Through regular exposure to industry and a curriculum grounded in real-world application, they become adaptable, independent thinkers with the ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
Everything we do is focused on progression. Whether students move into apprenticeships, university or employment, they leave Lincoln UTC fully prepared for the next stage of their journey. With around 30% progressing directly into apprenticeships, and all students equipped with the skills, knowledge and experience employers demand, our graduates are highly sought after and go on to build successful careers in some of the most exciting and rewarding industries.
