This morning many of our staff, their families and four legged friends congregated at the UTC, donned Santa outfits and headed off to join the masses at the Lincoln Santa Fun Run. We had great fun walking and running through the streets of Lincoln, with our youngest team members showing us up as they raced around the course in record time. This is the third year we have taken part and is becoming an annual UTC tradition – we hope to see students and parents joining us next year!
Male staff and students have spent the month of November taking part in ‘Movember’ to raise awareness and money for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and testicular cancer. The goal of Movember is to ‘change the face of men’s health’ and during the month our participants have grown moustaches and beards to raise money. Mr. Lewin has taken part in the last two years but this year he turned the challenge on it’s head and asked students and staff to raise £300 – in turn, he would then shave off his much loved beard! We rose to the challenge and having surpassed the £300 target, Mr. Lewin went under the razor courtesy of The Gentry, a barbers located on West Parade. Huge thanks to all who took part in the event, particularly Mr. Lewin who now looks ten years younger thanks to his fresh-faced appearance!
In the week ahead we will be welcoming Lindum Rotary Club to tour the UTC on Thursday evening. For some of these members it will be a trip down memory lane as they have studied here wither at the Girls’ School or Art College. On Friday morning we will be meeting Malcolm Healey from SEMTA to discuss an opportunity for the UTC to deliver apprenticeships for local engineering businesses. This is a very exciting project which will enable us to truly support local employers; we already provide them with first class employees at 16 and 18, and now we will be able to contribute to shaping the skills of their workforce as they enter the world of work.
Teaching staff are currently busy marking the Year 11 mock examination papers and writing reports for all year groups. Results and reports will be available in early January 2017. Year 13 mock examinations for all subjects and Year 12 mock exams for Mathematics and Further Mathematics will commence on Monday 23rd January 2017. Year 13 students studying Cambridge Technical in Engineering will have final examinations in early January; this information has already been sent to the students involved; should you have any questions, please contact our Examinations Officer, Mrs. Vincent.
May I take this opportunity to remind to that the UTC closes on Tuesday 20th December; students will have a truly unforgettable morning and will then be dismissed from approximately 1.15pm onwards.
I hope you have an enjoyable week.
